Abisko. A winter dream

I have been to this Hostel twice and I am a big fan. You just get to know people and feel right at home. The price-performance ratio is good and the location of the hostel as well. There is a sauna and a very well equipped kitchen. It is clean and the owners are very friendly.

Visited the place and turned away. Staggering price compared to the place.

Good sides: location is good, and that's about it. A bit hippie-style hostel with a communal atmosphere. Unclean expression, although the cleaning is said to be done daily. Unclean toilets, some out of paper. Showers in the different building. You have to pay a separate fee for sheets if you want them, 10 euros per person! Pillows looked like they were the cheapest ones found from Ikea 10 years ago. You could smell the communal kitchen stinking of bio-waste when walking up the stairwell. Freight train runs right by the building. The door of the room cannot be locked from the outside, i.e. things cannot be left in the room, also the doors did not block any sound, so the door was as useful as a curtain would have been. A good 70 euros for two people room which is as big as a jail cell, that included a bunk bed and a table with a chair. Totally overpriced, avoid this place.

Kindness at the same price

Kindness and all facilities for everything we asked for. They changed us one night for another so we could do another activity and they didn't have any problems. Views of the lake and the mountains.
The sauna was a delight, spacious and new and with good showers. All included in the price per room

The gift that kept on giving

I can’t even begin to tell you how in the coldest of weather this place has warmed my heart.
From the minute we arrived, Sonia on the desk was friendly and within the short 3 days we’ve been here, she’s come to feel like an old friend. Always around, has a lovely energy and likes a chat like myself. We used the sauna one of the nights, a fantastic experience that was the perfect relaxing end to a day of walking around and sledding in the cold! We had dog sledding booked (something you absolutely can not not do here, it was fantastic) and she explained everything, from start to finish and warned it could feel a little intense at the start as the dogs were so eager! She was not wrong but the sledding experience was fantastic, I was right at the back which minimised stopping for me and the scenery was beautiful. My dogs were full of character and I had so much fun working with them and being in their present! The guides were fantastic and good fun and we are actually popping back this afternoon to spend more time with the dogs!
We checked out this morning but could still use the facilities to prepare food and shower if we needed to.
The price was unbelievable for the experience, and we’ve decided we will be aiming to return once a year.
Whilst here, I will never stay anywhere else. This felt like home away from home, like family! I am coming back for mowgli in a few years though haha!

Excellent hostel in Abisko

Well, this hostel is not only cheaper compared with the others, but also offers a great quality stay!
The staff is always friendly and happy to help you. Sonia gives the best recommendations for the places to take a walk and spot the auroras. The atmosphere helps the people that stays there interact and creates a friendly environment. For the husky tour (which is a must either way), you get to use their winter gear with no extra cost!!
The sauna was nice, the hostel was clean, comfortable beds, easily accessible, but also easy to get to a place without light quickly (to spot the Northern lights). One day the northern lights were so strong you could either see them from the hostel.
Recommend for anybody that's staying in Abisko
