Tigre is a nice day trip from Buenos Aires. It is a few pesos train ride that can be taken from the Retiro rail station. The ride takes about an hour. When arriving head to the McDonalds, because right behind it is the tourism office to get ideas of what to do. There are plenty of boat rides along the delta bank that are not too expensive. The views here are nice, just a bit slow in TIgre, that is why it is a perfect as a day trip.

Very beautiful place, north of Buenos Aires. Must take a boat tour to the small islands.

Tigre the town is not very exciting, but the neighborhoods out in the river delta are! We took a commercial water taxi to Tres Bocas, which is apparently not the most popular stop for daytrippers, but is recommended by Lonely Planet, so that's why we went there! The only other non-Argentinians we saw were a French couple who also had a Lonely Planet guide with them. It was really great and very laid back. Find a place here to eat lunch and then walk around a little bit!

When I lived in Buenos Aires this was my once a month destination. Just a short train ride and you're in a beautiful little town where you can walk around with a litre of beer and a friend. Eat empanadas in a quiet cafe and take a boat tour of the islands. When I was there last there was still a nice ship graveyard on the boat ride and with the theme park rides as a backdrop, it was straight out of a Tim Burton film. I would buy a house here if I could.
