Don’t stay here unless you want to be verbally abused
Our initial cancellation request allowed 24 hours for a response, yet the motel failed to respond at all.
We then escalated the matter through Booking.com, who contacted the property three days later and formally gave them a further 48 hours to respond. Again, there was no response.
It was not until six days after our original request—and only after further follow-up—that the property finally made contact. When they did, instead of professionalism or basic courtesy, we were met with yelling, swearing, and aggressive behaviour.
We were told flooding “isn’t a natural disaster,” that our inability to travel was “not their problem,” and that we should have “just figured it out,” despite official emergency conditions. The conversation escalated to threatening and intimidating behaviour. Access to the property was not possible, as the only road we could take to reach the motel was officially closed due to flooding and is still closed 3 days after our booking concluded.
After this, they offered an alternative date to stay, but it was delivered with deeply uncomfortable and intimidating undertones, leaving us feeling unsafe and unwilling to have any further interaction.
This was not a simple policy disagreement — it was a complete failure to communicate, followed by hostile, abusive, and inappropriate conduct during a declared emergency.
If this is how management treats guests when circumstances are beyond their control, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. If I could give it less than 1 star I would.
All communication with the motel was recorded, and they were aware of this throughout the interaction, yet still conducted themselves in this manner, book anywhere else.

WORST MOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE

THIS HOTEL IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT and is riding on the coat-tails of the previous management who were outstanding.
The building itself looks like it’s deserted, the rooms are old but admittedly clean so my issue wasn’t with the room itself.
The restaurant they so heavily advertise is not even operational. A fact they don’t even put in their website or tell you when you book. The receptionist waved her hand and said it’s closed and that was all the details I got.
The manager was DISGRACEFUL.
I had booked a 5 night stay. The first night there was a huge electrical storm and the power went out in the entire hotel for over 2 hours. No air conditioning, no lights - you get it, no power.
I do understand these things happen - but NOT ONE staff member came out to check on guests. No one. When I called the manager (the number is on the reception desk which was shut hours before its stated time) they laughed and said it wasn’t thier problem and there was nothing he could do.
The rooms were SO stifling it was literally impossible to be in them without both doors open. The room was next to a main highway, with no security and in complete darkness.
I moved all my things into my car as the hotel room had to be open and I didn’t feel safe. I drove to other commercial properties in the area : no one else’s power was out including the commercial businesses next door to the hotel. Once return the power had come back on - after over 2 hours of being out.
Emerald heat and humidity is brutal. All my dogs fresh food had to be thrown out as it had already started to turn.
I texted the manager to inform I would be checking out the following morning and expected a refund for the remaining days. They tried to call but I didn’t want to speak as I was exhausted as it was now after 9pm. They then texted to inform me that he would be in the office from 8pm the following morning.
The next morning at 8.15am he banged on my door demanding to speak to me saying I wasn’t at the reception at 8am. I explained I never made a time, I simply said I would go to the reception in the morning (all in text so there are receipts) and he then starting being SO RUDE and disrespectful I couldn’t believe it. I felt so threatened and harassed I walked away to get my phone and started recording the conversation for my own protection.
The manager claimed they have NO responsibility to inform guests of any issues when the power is out and we basically all just have to fend for ourselves, then got upset when I said I had been researching the night it before, had documented everything on video and looked up consumer law. I was shouted at and told to leave.
By this stage I felt completely harassed and had severe anxiety. As a Woman staying there alone with my small dog I did NOT feel comfortable being in that room or anywhere on that property any longer. I packed up my room, recorded the state I left it in and documented everything.
This is NOT the same Explorers In of the past. As of 2022 new owners and new management came into play and they are atrocious.
DO NOT STAY HERE. I am now seeking legal advice and plan to take this further. But for now I would like to warn anyone off staying here. For the rates : there are several options in Emerald that are far better.

Terrible, never again would I stay here. Explorers Inn Emerald is not recommended at all.
