Great service!

I used 5000 ihg points to redeem one night here. This hotel was up to 3.5 stars standard. Spacious room with a separate shower space. Free breakfast was very various including local cuisines. Each staff was very accommodating and helpful. They tried their best to work out any problem we confronted.

Adequate hotel near city center

Adequate hotel located in the old city of Zhangye, about an hour from the airport (every hotel is an hour from the airport, which was built by the new city). Basic accommodations, a bit on the worn-down side, but staff was friendly and we slept well in this location. Our guide mentioned that this hotel is not one of the better ones - she did not suggest a hotel in advance - but we managed just fine here.

Breakfast fails the standard of the hotel

Hotel in the heart of the city with bright, airy rooms and opening windows. The latter a necessity as the aircon is locked on super heat!
No English spoken by staff.
Unfortunately, breakfast is limited with no Western selections and meagre Chinese offerings. Instant coffee only and no fruit juices. Ample hot water, tea, soy and cow milk though.

Acceptable for a remote location

Travelers to Danxia National park and Great Buddha Temple do not have much choice for international standard hotels in Zhangye - the Holiday Inn Express we found quite acceptable for a night's rest. In general, the hotel was relatively clean though "sparse"; breakfast was very local but enjoyable and filling. Other than the rooms and breakfast area, the hotel does not have other amenities, and as other have noted, is relatively far from town. So meals should be taken elsewhere before returning to the hotel. One other issue to note -- the hotel does not accept int'l credit cards so either pay before, have cash or get help.

Breakfast is cold even for hot dishes

We asked our travel agent to switch our Zhangye hotel to the Holiday Inn Express based on the reviews we read. This has got to be the least desirable hotel in our Silk Road Trip. The hotel rooms were clean. Breakfast is lousy. Hot food is served cold even for the steamed buns. Coffee machine was not working and the breakfast area is small. We picked this hotel because it is an international brand hotel. Just hope they can improve on their breakfast food.
